Launch speclo at your gym
Prepare your equipment list, introduce the app to staff and help members complete their first workout.
Start with a first workout
A useful launch ends with members completing a first workout, not just downloading an app. The practical work is to prepare the gym’s equipment list, show staff the member journey and make the first session easy to start.
Choose a manageable group of members for the initial introduction. Learn which questions they ask before extending the same approach across the gym. This is a suggested rollout approach, not a requirement built into speclo.
Give someone ownership of setup
Pick one person to check the gym profile, keep the equipment list accurate and coordinate the introduction with staff. Other people can help, but a named owner makes it easier to resolve missing details.
Before introducing the app, have your gym details, a usable logo and an equipment list ready. Agree who will review early activity and who will handle member questions.
Gym launch checklistA one-page checklist for your team.Download PDF- Confirm who maintains the equipment inventory.
- Check the gym name and location members should select.
- Choose who introduces the app during inductions or floor conversations.
- Set a time for the team to review the first rollout period.
Check the equipment list on the floor
Walk the gym with the equipment list open. Record the types of equipment available and their quantities. Check similar names carefully so the same machine is not listed twice.
speclo uses gym equipment as context for workout plans. Inventory quantities are not live availability readings. A machine appearing in the inventory does not mean it is free at that moment.
If you add or remove equipment later, make updating the inventory part of that job. Do not assume a maintenance or membership system updates it automatically.
How to add and update equipmentWalk staff through the member journey
Have the people introducing speclo follow the member journey themselves. They should know how to find the gym, enter training preferences, open a session and record a set.
The aim is to make staff comfortable answering setup questions. It does not require them to give the same training advice to every member. Exercise suitability and technique questions still need the appropriate judgement from qualified staff.
- Download speclo and create an account.
- Find and select the correct gym.
- Complete the member profile and training preferences.
- Create a plan and open a workout.
- Look at the exercise details, record the session and find the training history.
Introduce the app in a sentence
Explain the immediate benefit at a useful moment: an induction, a member asking what to train, or a conversation about establishing a routine. Avoid giving a long feature tour before they have opened the app.
Suggested staff wording: “We use speclo to help you plan and record workouts with the equipment here. Download the app, choose our gym and enter your training preferences. Ask us if you need help getting started.”
Share the download page through your existing member communication channels. Test the link on a phone first. This is a communication your team sends; speclo does not automatically launch a member email or SMS campaign.
Open the app download pageHelp the first session happen
Check that the member has selected the right gym and understands where their session is. Show them how to open exercise details and record a set. A short explanation at the point of use is more useful than expecting them to remember every screen from an induction.
If the equipment in a plan does not look right, check the selected gym and the inventory before treating it as a training problem. If the issue is an exercise they cannot perform, direct them to appropriate staff guidance.
Record and finish a workoutReview what gets in the way
After the initial introduction, ask staff where members needed help. Separate not knowing about the app from difficulty joining, difficulty starting a first workout, and difficulty returning for another session.
Review recorded activity alongside those conversations. A download alone is not a completed workout, and a quiet app record does not prove that a member has stopped visiting. Do not use an arbitrary activity target as a cancellation prediction.
- Can members find the correct gym?
- Can they complete setup and open a plan?
- Do they understand how to record and finish a session?
- What questions repeat across members?
- What will the team change before the next introduction?
