speclo and your existing gym app
Understand the training role, what stays in your existing software and which compatibility questions to ask.
Start with the jobs your software does
An app for paying membership fees or opening a door is not necessarily an app for planning and recording a workout. Before comparing products, list the jobs your current systems perform.
For an independent gym, those jobs might include billing, access, class bookings, member communication and training. One system may cover several, or different systems may handle each.
- Write down what handles payments and membership records.
- Identify access-control and class-booking tools.
- Check how staff currently contact members.
- List any existing workout programming or coaching app.
Identify the training gap
speclo gives members workouts based on their gym’s equipment, exercise guidance and a record of their training. The operator dashboard provides views of activity recorded through speclo.
If your existing offer already includes a training app, look at the member experience before adding another. Who is currently using it? Does it reflect your equipment? What work do staff do to get a member started?
The useful question is whether speclo fills a real gap for your members and team. Having another app is not an improvement on its own.
Keep business administration where it belongs
This website does not describe speclo as a replacement for billing, door access or class bookings. Keep those responsibilities clear when introducing the product to staff and members.
A simple working map is: existing systems handle membership administration; speclo handles the training experience and its recorded activity. Adjust that map if your current software already supplies training, rather than assuming an automatic replacement.
| Job | Where to look | Check before rollout |
|---|---|---|
| Payments and membership records | Your existing membership system | Who owns account and billing questions? |
| Door access and class bookings | Your existing access or booking provider | Which app do members use for each task? |
| Workout plans and logging | speclo member app | Is there an existing training app to consider? |
| Recorded training activity | speclo gym dashboard | Does the team understand the reporting scope? |
| Data shared between systems | A specifically verified connection | Do not assume automatic sync or shared login. |
Distinguish coexistence from integration
Two products can be used alongside one another without exchanging data. An integration means a specific connection exists and has defined behaviour.
Do not assume accounts, memberships, check-ins or cancellations sync automatically. The presence of a link to an app also does not mean shared login or single sign-on.
Members currently download speclo, create an account and select their gym. Plan your introduction around that actual flow unless a different arrangement has been confirmed.
Prepare useful questions for a demo
Bring the names of your current providers and the specific result you need. “Can these systems share membership status?” is more useful than a general request for integration.
Explain who maintains equipment, how members are inducted and whether coaches already prescribe programmes in another tool. That gives the conversation enough context to assess fit.
- Which systems do you use today, and for which tasks?
- Do members already have a training app?
- How many locations would use speclo?
- Who will keep the equipment list current?
- What information would you need shared, in which direction?
- Who helps members through their first session?
Make a clear rollout decision
Before introducing another app, agree what members will use it for and how staff will explain it. Keep download links, joining instructions and the support route easy to find.
If a connection to another provider is essential, confirm the specific capability before relying on it. Do not plan a launch around a proposed integration or assume a custom connector is included.
